What the work is worth. Lasers, semiconductors, MRI, and nuclear medicine came out of physics that had no application when discovered. Physicists create the future by understanding the present.
An ordinary day. Develop theories and run experiments on matter, energy, and force; build instruments; compute; publish; and push the boundary of what is known.
The path in. Doctorate for research; bachelor's and master's for applied and government roles.
From zero. The STEM Farm Laboratory / Biotechnology / Life Sciences track starts at zero-STEM intake and ends in this kind of work, with verified proof at every gate.

STEM program aptitude test for middle school students. Aptitude tests measure what you can do under a clock. STEM Compass measures what you would keep doing on a Saturday with nobody watching — the enjoyment that turns into skill. A STEM program is a path to a career. Find the career that fits first, then the STEM Farm track that starts at zero and ends in that job with verified proof at every gate. Middle school is when interest in STEM is decided, usually by whether the subject ever got connected to a person a student could become.

The personality behind the work
- Inquiry. You ask deep questions about how the natural world works and you keep asking.
- Abstract & Systems Thinking. You can hold an invisible system in your head — logic flows, data moving between parts, cause and effect you cannot see.
- Patience. You accept that real proof takes months or years of testing, and you can wait for it.
- Numbers & Data Affinity. You like living in numbers, tables, and measurements; quantitative work feels natural.
- Persistence. You keep going through hours of troubleshooting. A problem that refuses to yield is a reason to stay, not a reason to leave.
- Curiosity. You want to find the hidden pattern in raw numbers. A pile of data is a mystery you want to solve.
- Meticulousness. You record exact notes and follow strict procedures without being told to.
- Ambiguity Tolerance. You are comfortable starting without a clear map. Open-ended problems energize you.
