What the work is worth. Programmers turn plans into running systems. The role is being absorbed into broader developer work, which is why it is shrinking — the skill itself is more in demand than ever.
An ordinary day. Write, test, and maintain code to specifications produced by developers and engineers; convert designs into working programs.
The path in. Bachelor's in computer science is typical; certifications in specific languages help.
From zero. The STEM Farm Software / Web / QA / Automation track starts at zero-STEM intake and ends in this kind of work, with verified proof at every gate.

STEM majors path. A path has a start, a direction and a destination. The assessment gives the direction, the career pages the destination, and the STEM Farm track the start at zero. STEM majors point at careers, and every career has a different entry path — doctorate, bachelor's, associate's, certificate, or a portfolio. See the path before you choose the major.

The personality behind the work
- Persistence. You keep going through hours of troubleshooting. A problem that refuses to yield is a reason to stay, not a reason to leave.
- Detail Orientation. You remember complex facts and catch small errors before they become large ones.
- Abstract & Systems Thinking. You can hold an invisible system in your head — logic flows, data moving between parts, cause and effect you cannot see.
- Meticulousness. You record exact notes and follow strict procedures without being told to.
- Adaptability. New tools, new languages, new rules do not throw you. You expect the ground to move and you enjoy relearning.
