What the work is worth. The techniques that power language models, medical imaging, and secure communication started as someone's research question. This is where the next decade of technology is decided.
An ordinary day. Invent new computing methods — algorithms, machine learning approaches, new architectures — run experiments, publish, and work with engineers to make results usable.
The path in. Master's or doctorate in computer science is typical for research positions.
From zero. The STEM Farm AI / Media track starts at zero-STEM intake and ends in this kind of work, with verified proof at every gate.

STEM fields test for Latinas. Most career tests stop at a type. This one measures fifteen STEM working traits and eight kinds of impact, then matches the whole profile to careers and to a path from zero. Eight STEM fields, eight trait signatures. The assessment scores you on all fifteen traits and shows which fields are already yours before you commit to a major or a program. The personality behind the work
- Abstract & Systems Thinking. You can hold an invisible system in your head — logic flows, data moving between parts, cause and effect you cannot see.
- Inquiry. You ask deep questions about how the natural world works and you keep asking.
- Patience. You accept that real proof takes months or years of testing, and you can wait for it.
- Curiosity. You want to find the hidden pattern in raw numbers. A pile of data is a mystery you want to solve.
- Numbers & Data Affinity. You like living in numbers, tables, and measurements; quantitative work feels natural.
- Persistence. You keep going through hours of troubleshooting. A problem that refuses to yield is a reason to stay, not a reason to leave.
- Ambiguity Tolerance. You are comfortable starting without a clear map. Open-ended problems energize you.
- Meticulousness. You record exact notes and follow strict procedures without being told to.
