What the work is worth. Nearly every service people use — banking, medicine, schooling, transport — runs on software someone built and maintains. A developer decides how millions of people experience those systems.
An ordinary day. Design features, write and review code, debug what broke overnight, and ship improvements in short cycles with a team.
The path in. Bachelor's in computer science or a related field; strong portfolios and bootcamp routes also open doors.
From zero. The STEM Farm Software / Web / QA / Automation track starts at zero-STEM intake and ends in this kind of work, with verified proof at every gate.

STEM degree aptitude test for beginners. Aptitude tests measure what you can do under a clock. STEM Compass measures what you would keep doing on a Saturday with nobody watching — the enjoyment that turns into skill. A STEM degree is one path in, not the only one. Web development, security, data analytics and technician roles open through certificates, apprenticeships and portfolios; medicine and research need the long road. A beginner needs a direction before a curriculum. The assessment is the direction; the track is the curriculum.

The personality behind the work
- Persistence. You keep going through hours of troubleshooting. A problem that refuses to yield is a reason to stay, not a reason to leave.
- Abstract & Systems Thinking. You can hold an invisible system in your head — logic flows, data moving between parts, cause and effect you cannot see.
- Adaptability. New tools, new languages, new rules do not throw you. You expect the ground to move and you enjoy relearning.
- Detail Orientation. You remember complex facts and catch small errors before they become large ones.
- Collaboration. You work well inside large teams with strict deadlines and shared ownership.
- Ambiguity Tolerance. You are comfortable starting without a clear map. Open-ended problems energize you.
- Practicality. You are drawn to building functional things — physical or digital — that work in the real world.
