What the work is worth. Vaccines, gene therapies, and the enzymes in a modern detergent all trace to biochemistry. This is the science that explains life at the molecular level.
An ordinary day. Study the chemistry and physics of living things — proteins, DNA, cell signaling — with instruments and computation; publish and apply findings to medicine and agriculture.
The path in. Doctorate for research; bachelor's and master's for laboratory and industry roles.
From zero. The STEM Farm Laboratory / Biotechnology / Life Sciences track starts at zero-STEM intake and ends in this kind of work, with verified proof at every gate.

STEM careers aptitude test. Aptitude tests measure what you can do under a clock. STEM Compass measures what you would keep doing on a Saturday with nobody watching — the enjoyment that turns into skill. STEM careers span eight families and forty roles, and the daily work differs more than it shares. A civil engineer and a statistician have almost nothing in common at 10 a.m. on a Tuesday.

The personality behind the work
- Inquiry. You ask deep questions about how the natural world works and you keep asking.
- Patience. You accept that real proof takes months or years of testing, and you can wait for it.
- Meticulousness. You record exact notes and follow strict procedures without being told to.
- Detail Orientation. You remember complex facts and catch small errors before they become large ones.
- Persistence. You keep going through hours of troubleshooting. A problem that refuses to yield is a reason to stay, not a reason to leave.
- Abstract & Systems Thinking. You can hold an invisible system in your head — logic flows, data moving between parts, cause and effect you cannot see.
- Numbers & Data Affinity. You like living in numbers, tables, and measurements; quantitative work feels natural.
- Curiosity. You want to find the hidden pattern in raw numbers. A pile of data is a mystery you want to solve.
