What the work is worth. Programmers turn plans into running systems. The role is being absorbed into broader developer work, which is why it is shrinking — the skill itself is more in demand than ever.
An ordinary day. Write, test, and maintain code to specifications produced by developers and engineers; convert designs into working programs.
The path in. Bachelor's in computer science is typical; certifications in specific languages help.
From zero. The STEM Farm Software / Web / QA / Automation track starts at zero-STEM intake and ends in this kind of work, with verified proof at every gate.

Is a STEM profession right for me for Hispanic students. Right for you means the traits the work runs on are traits you already have or want to grow. The assessment shows the gap or the margin on every one. A profession is a career you stay in. The assessment measures the traits that make the daily work sustainable — not whether you can pass the first class, but whether you will still want the work at year ten. Hispanic workers are about 19% of the labor force and about 1.2% of software developers. The path in exists in every county; this names it.

The personality behind the work
- Persistence. You keep going through hours of troubleshooting. A problem that refuses to yield is a reason to stay, not a reason to leave.
- Detail Orientation. You remember complex facts and catch small errors before they become large ones.
- Abstract & Systems Thinking. You can hold an invisible system in your head — logic flows, data moving between parts, cause and effect you cannot see.
- Meticulousness. You record exact notes and follow strict procedures without being told to.
- Adaptability. New tools, new languages, new rules do not throw you. You expect the ground to move and you enjoy relearning.
