File the FAFSA at studentaid.gov — it is free, and a drug conviction no longer blocks eligibility either.
The second thing: the Federal Bonding Program gives an employer a free fidelity bond to cover the risk of hiring you, and the Work Opportunity Tax Credit pays them up to $2,400 for doing it. Both exist to make you the cheaper hire. Most applicants never mention either one.
