The Baltimore–Columbia–Towson, MD area has held roughly steady since 2020 — up 0.5%, about 13,271 people. There is no boom here to ride, and that changes what works. In a flat market the ladder does not build itself: openings come from retirements and replacement rather than expansion, which makes credentials and timing decisive. Maryland employers still report unfilled STEM and skilled-trade roles — the routing problem is if anything sharper where growth is not papering over it.
