Albuquerque is earlier on the gentrification curve — which means the anti-displacement window is still open, and skills-based wealth building can outrun it. At the same time, STEM and skilled-trade employers in New Mexico report persistent hiring gaps — jobs that pay family-sustaining wages are going unfilled while local students are told to wait their turn. Those two facts are the same problem viewed from two sides, and the counter-move is the same: route local young people into verified, higher-wage skills before the neighborhood prices them out.
